Doubts about the future of Embraer's joint manufacturing venture with China's AVIC II group were largely laid to rest by the time Harbin-Embraer Aircraft's biggest Chinese customer, Hainan Airlines Group (HNA) subsidiary Grand China Express, took delivery of its first airplane last September. After all, a firm order for 50 Chinese-made ERJ 145s in August 2006 as part of a larger order that included 50 Brazilian-made E190s had promised three years of work for the new factory. But things had looked a lot less certain only months earlier, when, as the 2006 Asian Aerospace show approached early that year, a backlog that had dwindled to just two airplanes threatened to shut down Embraer production in Harbin altogether.

On February 27, Cathay Pacific welcomed the announcement by the HKSAR Financial Secretary, Mr John Tsang, in his Budget Speech that the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) would begin within this year the engineering and environmental feasibility studies for a third runway at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).
- Shenzhen Airlines Adopts Mechtronix NZFT Full Flight Simulator[Feb. 26, 2008]
On February 26, Shenzhen Airlines, one of China's leading airlines, announced its adoption of a new B737-NG FFS X from Mechtronix, the fastest growing and third leading manufacturer of flight training equipment in the world. The FFS X NZFT (Non Zero Flight Time) unit is currently being delivered with plans to install and qualify with Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for training set to begin in March at the airline's facility in Shenzhen, China. The growing airline's introduction of the FFS X will support pilot training in its own facility allowing for the reduction of training costs and the expansion of its training capacity.
