In recent years, Hong Kong's air transport industry benefited directly from the rapid growth of the Asia-Pacific and Chinese markets. Despite such strong growth, Hong Kong has encountered fierce competition from its regional neighbours and even within the same catchment area (the Pearl River Delta Region, PRD). Furthermore, airspace and ground congestion have become more serious over time. It is believed that the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will run out of capacity at some point of time in the near future.

On Dec. 18, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Nippon Express and Kintetsu World Express signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a new joint venture company to provide business to business international express delivery services in Asia. The new company will commence operations on April 1, 2008.

On Dec. 18, an airplane overran a runway upon landing at the Izumo Airport in Shimane Prefecture after its front tires burst and came off, airport officials said.

Cambodia's government is seeking to establish a new national airline in partnership with two Indonesian companies, six years after flag carrier Royal Air Cambodge collapsed.
- Qantas to Increase Services to Hong Kong[Dec. 20, 2007]
On December 20, Qantas announced that it would increase services between Melbourne and Hong Kong by three flights per week from April 1, 2008.*
- Siemens Baggage Handling System Handed over to BCIA[Dec. 19, 2007]
One of the world's biggest baggage handling systems, reflecting state-of-the-art design and utilizing the world's most advanced technology will be put into operation right on schedule at Beijing's Capital International Airport. The Siemens baggage handling system of the new Terminal 3 was handed over to the Beijing Airport Authority, BCIA, on December 19, 2007. With its capacity to sort and transport up to 19,200 baggage items per hour, it ensures that Beijing Capital International Airport is well prepared for the influx of visitors for the Beijing Olympic Games in August 2008.
- Air China Cool on China Eastern-SIA Deal[Dec. 20, 2007]
China Eastern Airlines failed to win a gesture of support from its rival and shareholder Air China for a stake sale to Singapore Airlines Ltd during a meeting of top executives, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Dec. 20.
- Harvest Fund Supports CNAHC on China Eastern-SIA Deal[Dec. 21, 2007]
Harvest Fund Management Co. Ltd, one of the ten largest holders of tradable shares of China Eastern Airlines, announced on Dec. 20 that the company will support CNAHC, the parent of Air China on the China Eastern-Singapore Airlines deal.
