China Eastern Airlines, the third-biggest carrier in Mainland China, reported net loss in 2006 widened to 3.3 billion yuan (HK$3.34 billion) from 467 million yuan the previous year, largely due to high fuel prices and fierce competition among mainland and international airlines.

Chinese flag carrier Air China continues to boost its capacity globally. With an increase of 7.25% compared with summer and autumn 2006, Air China from summer 2007 on will fly 5,817 flights per week on 254 international and domestic routes enable passengers to proceed to 26 countries and regions including 39 international and 78 domestic cities.
- Boeing, Air Canada Announce 23 Additional 787 Dreamliners[Apr. 25, 2007]
On April 25, the Boeing Company confirmed an order by Air Canada, announced April 24 by the airline, for 23 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The order brings to 37 the number of 787s ordered by the airline. Air Canada has ordered more Dreamliners than any other carrier in the Western Hemisphere.

On April 26, Qantas signed an investment agreement with the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC), the investment holding arm of the Vietnamese Government, to purchase a 30 per cent stake in Pacific Airlines, Vietnam's second largest carrier.

On April 24, Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd (ST Aerospace) announced the expansion of its maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Singapore with the official opening of a new hangar and groundbreaking for another at its wholly-owned subsidiary's, ST Aerospace Engineering Pte Ltd (STA Engrg), Seletar facility. ST Aerospace is the aerospace arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering).
- Swiftair Orders 3 ATR 72-500s[Apr. 25, 2007]
On April 25, ATR and Madrid-based Swiftair announced the signature of a contract for 3 new ATR 72-500s for a total value of about US$55 million. The airline, which currently operates 16 ATR aircraft, is now adding to its fleet for the first time the new -500 series ATR aircraft. Swiftair plans to operate 30 ATRs in 2010.
- ELFAA Welcomes European Commission's Decision to Limit PSO Abuse in Italy[Apr. 24, 2007]
On April 24, the European Low Fares Airline Association (ELFAA) welcomed the European Commission's decision to limit the abuse of public service obligation (PSO) rules on routes between Sardinia and mainland Italy. Although the decision should have been more ambitious, in that it should have expressly disallowed PSOs on routes where there is sufficient competition, it is an important precedent in the fight against widespread abuse of PSOs throughout Europe.
