China is heading to become the first country in the world to operate a totally paper-free ticket system for air travel at home and abroad, the head of the airline industry's global body IATA said on December 12.

On December 26, Shanghai Airlines started selling tickets for eight round-trip charter flights to Taiwan during the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year in mid-February.
- Air China to Increase Beijing-San Francisco Frequency From April[Dec. 25, 2006]
Starting from April 1, 2007, Air China will create additional capacity on the Beijing-San Francisco route by offering daily service instead of the current schedule of 5 flights per week. The two additional flights will be on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Spring Airlines, a Chinese budget airline based in Shanghai, has appealed to the pricing watchdog in east China's Shandong Province for a public hearing over the proposed fines for selling allegedly below-cost tickets last month.

According to local news report, China Eastern has recently signed contracts with both Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways and Air New Zealand to handle their ground services at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

On December 18, the Chinese-foreign joint venture company (JV) formed by Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport Co. Ltd and Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) announced its inauguration in Hangzhou after completing all official approval procedures and capital injection. The JV is tasked to make Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport a world-class airport by enhancing operation efficiency, improving service quality and management standards, and carrying out the RMB6.8 billion second phase expansion.
- Hong Kong SAR Signs Air Services Agreement with Kazakhstan[Dec. 22, 2006]
The Hong Kong SAR Government's Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, Mr Stephen Ip, signed on behalf of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region an Air Services Agreement with the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hong Kong on December 22.

On December 21, the Airport Authority Hong Kong released HKIA 2025, a 20-year plan that will guide the development of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and ensure the airport continues to contribute to the social and economic development of Hong Kong, the Pearl River Delta (PRD) and the Chinese Mainland as a whole.
