- WestJet Reports August Traffic Results[Sep. 07, 2006]
On 7th September, WestJet announced its traffic statistics for August 2006 with revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increasing 19% to 951.7 million for August this year, up from 797.5 million in August 2005. Year to date, RPMs increased 22% to 6,472.2 million from 5,294.1 million in the same period in 2005.

France-based planemaker Airbus said on Friday it had sold 22 aircraft in August, bringing its year total to 222, well behind rival Boeing Co which has booked 548.

Brazil's Embraer announced Tuesday that it will sell 50 Phenom 100 executive jets to U.S.-based Magnum Jet for US$138 million.

- Europe Beats Asia in Airline Profitability[Sep. 07, 2006]
Data released by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation has found that at the beginning of the year, Asia-Pacific airlines were expected to lead the way in international industry profitability in 2006. IATA also projected a profit of USD2 billion and stated that the low labour costs and strong long haul markets were some of the key features of a projected success in the region.

From the 8th of September, five major US airlines will start charging travel agents, both traditional and online, an extra US$3.50 for each individual booking on domestic flights. Many travel agents have already declared that they are passing this charge onto customers.

Taiwan's second largest airline, EVA Airways Corp. has posted its biggest loss in this last quarter ending in June since the 2003 Asia SARS outbreak due to dramatic increases in jet fuel prices.

Mario Heinen (50) has been appointed Senior Vice President and Head of the A380 Programme with immediate effect. Mr Heinen has until now lead the Single Aisle Programme, and previously headed the Airbus Delivery Centres in Toulouse and Hamburg. He joined Airbus in 1999 coming from Lufthansa Technik, where he served as General Manager Aircraft Maintenance.

Lufthansa will come into focus Tuesday as peer British Airways will release August passenger figures, traders say. "There's no own newsflow expected for Lufthansa so the figures should move the share price," says one trader.
