Beijing Capital International Airport was ranked ninth biggest in the world in terms of passenger numbers last year according to the Airports Council International (ACI).

Air China, the mainland's largest international carrier, saw net profit grow 87 percent to 3.2 billion yuan (HK$3.23 billion) in 2006 after selling its stake in Dragonair to Cathay Pacific.

This brings the Luxembourg-based cargo operator's total 747-8 Freighter order to 13 airplanes, two options and 10 purchase rights.

On March 12, the Boeing Company and Moscow-based freight company Volga-Dnepr Group announced an order for five Boeing 747-8 Freighters with purchase rights for an additional five airplanes.

Boeing and DHL agreed on an order for six 767-300ER (Extended Range) Freighters. DHL, wholly owned by Bonn, Germany-based Deutsche Post World Net, is a leading international express delivery and logistics company. The order is valued at US$894 million at list prices. This order has previously been accounted for on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries Website.

On March 7, Cathay Pacific Airways announced a profit attributable to shareholders of HK$4,088 million in its 2006 annual results, compared to a profit of HK$3,298 million the previous year. The 2006 results include a three-month contribution from Dragonair, which became a wholly owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific on 28 September 2006.
