China Southern Sponsors Hoop Stars Tour
China Southern Airlines | Aug. 03, 2006
Over three years ago, Jay "Boogie" Brantley founded the Hoop Stars, a basketball team based in Los Angeles similar to the modern-day Harlem Globetrotters. It is comprised of streetball legends and celebrities who tour combining hip-hop and basketball while teaching young players the values of solid fundamentals, teamwork and skills.
From July 25 (until August 17), the Hoop Stars has started its visit to Guangzhou, China and other cities in the surrounding area for a three-week tour of competitive exhibition matches, instructional youth clinics, and international business development. Many exhibition games will be played at the Tianhe Sports Center (TSC) in Guangzhou (also site of the 2010 Asian Games) in front of an estimated live audience of 5,000 per game. All games will be broadcast on TV, potentially reaching a population of over 50 million in the Guangdong Province and beyond through cable networks in other parts of China. Other events during the tour include visits to elementary and sports schools in the Guangzhou area; demonstration nights at the THSC outdoor courts, involvement with US Consulate and American Chamber of Commerce; promotions of sponsors and supporters; special events at local hot spots; TV and radio interviews; and more.
