DHL UK Publishes Environmental Commitment
Air Cargo News | Jan. 24, 2007
DHL has released the first sustainability report for its operations in the UK. The report covers both the express and aviation divisions.
The aim of the report is to provide stakeholders with detailed information about the economic, environmental and social performance of DHL in the UK and the company's aspirations for the future.
The sustainability focus of its aviation business is on reducing emissions. DHL contributes to the reduction of emissions by equipping its aircraft with modern high-bypass-ratio engines combined with an improved wing design. This helps DHL Aviation UK to operate a quiet and fuel-efficient fleet of 757 aircraft.
To further reduce fuel consumption and the noise pollution created by approaching aircraft, DHL also supports the continuous descent approach for its landing aircraft.
The company actively participates in the climate change debate, including discussions on the possible inclusion of aviation within the Emissions Trading Scheme. "As a company we know we have impacts on society and the environment. We are introducing new ways to manage potential risks within our business," said Chris Muntwyler, chief executive officer DHL Express UK & Ireland.
