United Parcel Services (UPS) has ordered 27 new Boeing 767-300ER freighters for an undisclosed sum. The order is not related to UPS's on-going review of its A380F order, it said.
The new freighters have been ordered to support UPS's growing package business. The company also claims that the new aircraft will "provide broad options for the management of the jet fleet". Deliveries will take place between 2009 and 2012.
"The Boeing 767-300ER freighter already is part of our current air fleet and we know from experience what a great workhorse it is. It provides great flexibility, fast time in transit and sound cost performance," said Bob Lekites, UPS vice-president for airline and international operations.
David Abney, president of UPS Airlines added that the new 767 freighters "will have state-of-the-art navigation and collision avoidance systems that will serve us for years to come".
