Tiger Airways Obtains Operating Permit to Fly to Brunei
Tiger Airways Pte Ltd | Aug. 08, 2007
Low fare airline Tiger Airways has been granted operating permit from the Government of Brunei Darussalam, Department of Civil Aviation to fly there. With this final regulatory hurdle cleared, Tiger Airways is now ready to operate its 21st international route with a flight service between Singapore and Brunei.
The airline is confident of a strong demand for its international low fare air travel service between Singapore and Brunei. Tiger Airways would be the only low fare airline operating between Singapore and the island of Borneo with the inception of this new route. Brunei, located on the island of Borneo, shares a common border with Sarawak, a state of Malaysia, and has a coastline facing the South China Sea.
The airline expects to announce commencement of sales in the coming weeks. Tony Davis, CEO of Tiger Airways said: "Having firmly established Tiger Airways as the largest international low fare airline to serve the Asia Pacific region from Australia to China and now India, we are delighted to announce that Tiger Airways has been awarded the permit to fly to Brunei Darussalam. This firmly establishes Tiger Airways as the leading low fare airline across Asia-Pacific and creates new opportunities to link travel across Tiger Airways rapidly growing route network."
"Malaysian cities neighbouring Brunei, such as Miri, Labuan, Kota Kinabalu and others are expected to benefit from the greater accessibility to Tiger Airways' low fare flights between Singapore and Borneo. This is currently not available and is expected to bring socio-economic benefits through tourism and foreign workers commuting in the region."
"Singapore and Brunei share deep historic and economic ties and have a long history of co-operation between the two governments. The two countries recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of their currency interchangeability agreement with the issue of a first ever $20 currency note by both countries. The people of Singapore and Brunei have also maintained strong personal and social ties and the launch of this new route will help to bring this relationship to a new high," said Davis.
