Boeing announced Wednesday it has awarded a contract to AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Industry (Group) Corporation Ltd. (CAC) to manufacture the rudder for the Boeing 787-10 at the Aviation Expo China in Beijing.
AVIC CAC has become a rudder supplier for Boeing's 787 Dreamliner project since 2008. The new contract demonstrates the deep confidence Boeing has in CAC's manufacturing capability of composite rudder for the 787.
"With years of cooperation on commercial aircraft projects between the Boeing team and the CAC team, this new contract not only reflects our confidence in CAC's high quality but also represents the joint effort of CAC and Boeing in improving the manufacturing ability of composite materials and their hard work to improve the competitive edge of our products," said Kent Fisher, vice president and general manager, Supplier Management, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Apart from B787's rudder, CAC also supplies rudder and front boarding gate for the B737 (the latter is through contract with Spirit company), aileron and spoiler for the B747 and horizontal tail assemblies for the B747 (through contract with Triumph company).
