Hainan Airlines, China's fourth largest carrier, has filed an application with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for seeking traffic rights to Mexico City and New York.
Pending government approval, the Haikou-based carrier will launch an international service from Beijing to Mexico City via Tijuana, Mexico starting January 2017, according to an announcement released Thursday on the website of the CAAC.
Meanwhile, the airline also intends to start two nonstop services from Southwest China's Chengdu and Chongqing to New York, the United States in March and June 2017, respectively.
All Mexico City, New York services will be operated thrice weekly, using Boeing 787 Dreamliners, the CAAC said.
The Air Transportation Department of CAAC is soliciting public comments on the application until 5:00 p.m. on July 21, 2016.
