China's Juneyao Airlines reported on Monday night that its first-half net profit rose 37.18% to 710 million yuan from 518 million yuan a year earlier.
The Shanghai-based carrier's operating revenue came in at 4.75 billion yuan in the first six months ended June 30, up 23.66% from a year earlier. Its revenue was higher than the precious year due to the airline's increased capacity in the reporting period.
Juneyao attributed the improved profit to "low oil prices [and] continued growth in global air passenger traffic, driven by an increase in demand for domestic travel."
The airline said it carried 6.26 million passengers in the first half, including 821,810 passengers traveling on international routes, up 27.6% compared with the same period of the previous year.
In the first half of the year, load factor for the carrier came in flat at 86%, with aircraft utilisation rates were down to 11.7 hours from 12.2 hours.
Passenger load factor kept stable at 86.09%, with daily aircraft utilization declined to 11.74 hours from 12.19 hours in the previous year.
Specifically, its low-cost subsidiary 9 Air earned 411 million yuan in the first-half year, being the first time recording profit in nearly two years from its inaugural flight in January 2015.
In the first six months of 2016, Juneyao Airlines had taken delivery of seven new aircraft, with six more pending delivery in the second half.
As of the end of June 2016, the carrier has operated a fleet of 56 Airbus A320 family aircraft, while its 9 Air subsidiary operates eight Boeing 737-800s.
Chinese LCC Spring Airlines, another airline based in Shanghai, said on Monday its net profit for the first half came in at 740 million yuan, up 19.4% from 619.5 million yuan in the same period last year.
