The average on-time departure rate of major airports in mainland China reached 76.2% in August 2016, up 7.25 percentage points year on year, according to data released by Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

Among the 51 airports, 28 achieved better on-time departure performance than the average level, including Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (89.16%), Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (84.82%), Kunming Changshui International Airport (84.56%) and etc.

The 51 airports are divided into two categories according to passenger numbers served in 2014 - full-year passenger volume more than 1% of total airports and that less than 1%.

According to statistics, Xi'an replaced Kunming on the top of the list to be the most punctual airport in 10 million passenger club with an on-time departure rate of 89.16%, followed by Chongqing and Kunming.

Beijing Capital International Airport and Nanjing Lukou International Airport were ranked at the bottom of the list of airports with more passenger volumes, with only 66.58% and 67.04% percent on-time departures in August 2016.

Data shows that Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport saw the largest improvement in its on-time performance among the 27 major airports, with its on-time departure increasing 24.48 percentage points to 78.36% compared with the same period last year.

Jiuzhaigou Airport had the best on-time performance among airports with passenger numbers less than 1% of total airports, with 89.55% of flights departing on time in August.
