China Eastern Posts 12.6 Passenger Traffic Growth in January 2017

China Eastern Airlines Monday reported two-digital growths in available seat kilometers (ASK) and revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) for January 2017.
Owing to increasing travel demands, the Shanghai-based carrier recorded 16.7 percent and 12.5 percent year-on-year growth in passenger demand (measured in RPK) and capacity input (measured in ASK) respectively, according to the airline's monthly operation statistic.
Passenger traffic surged 12.6 percent to 8.9 million compared with the same period last year, with cargo and mail traffic dropping 6.4 percent to 117.6 million tonnes.
The passenger load factor was up 2.89 percentage points to 81.75 percent; while the freight load factor declined 3.49 percentage points to 47.59 percent, the Shanghai-based carrier said.
China Eastern has launched thrice-weekly Wuhan-Sydney service on January 27.
In January 2017, China Eastern introduced one Airbus A320 aircraft and retired one Boeing 737-700 aircraft. As at the end of January, the airline Group operated a fleet of 581 aircraft, including 73 wide-bodies, 499 narrow-bodies and nine freighters.
As of Feb. 8, the airline has completed the disposal of its entire stake in Eastern Logistics.
