China's Busiest Airports in Spring Festival Travel Rush

During the past 40-day Spring Festival travel season, or "Chunyun period" from January 13 to February 21, China's civil aviation sectors served as many as 59.04 million passengers, an increase of 14% over the same period last year.
According to the preliminary data released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), Chinese carriers performed 552,000 flights during the travel season, up 11.2 percent year on year.
Furthermore, passenger load factor during the Chunyun period rose 2 percentage points to 84.2 percent. Load factor measures how efficiently an airline fills seats on its flights to generate revenue.
20 Busiest Airports in Chunyun Period
According to CAAC statistics, Beijing Capital International Airport has served 10.84 million passengers during the 40-day travel rush, retaining its crown as the busiest airport in China.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport has transported 7.79 million passengers during the period, being the 2nd busiest airport, followed by Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.
Meanwhile, the other Shanghai airport -- Hongqiao International Airport -- stood at the 9th place in the list, with 4.34 million passengers transported in the 40 days.
