In July 2017, the passenger flow of airports under CAAC Southwest Regional Administration was 16.5101 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 7.87%. Yunnan airports cluster had the largest passenger flow of 5.31 million. Airports in Tibet had the largest year-on-year growth rate of 11.26%.
There were a total of 13 airports having a passenger flow of more than 100 thousand in July 2017, two more airports than the 11 airports in July 2016. Among airports with over 1 million passenger flow, Guiyang Airport had the largest growth rate, representing a year-on-year growth of 16.9%. Kunming Airport, affected by tourism market changes and the opening of high-speed railway, only recorded a slight increase of 0.34%.
Remarkably, Luzhou Airport experienced dramatic drops in recent months. It ranked 13th in July 2016 while its current rank dropped to 45th in July 2017. Its monthly passenger flow and aircraft movement in July were 4079 and 50, representing a year-on-year decrease of 95.56% and 93.75% respectively. Luzhou Airport's slump might be caused by the administration's restrictive measures to it.
Zunyi Xinzhou Airport recorded rapid growth in
recent years. From January to July in 2017, its passenger flow exceeded 0.836
million, representing a year-on-year growth of 36.98%, and its aircraft
movement approximated
8200 flights. However, Zunyin Xinzhou Airport may face competition from Zunyi
Maotai Airport in the future.
