"O'Zapft is!": Every year in autumn, roughly six million people, locals and internationals alike, come to visit the famous Oktoberfest in Munich that is traditionally and officially opened by the iconic two words of Munich's Headmayor. Reason enough for Emirates, the world's largest international airline, to introduce its special German and Bavarian inspired food and beverage offering on German routes during this year's edition of the world's largest fair.
Since July 2017, Emirates operates five daily A380 flights from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Chinese passengers, who are passionate about the Bavarian culture, can fly with Emirates to enjoy the joy on-board of the flights to Germany. Passengers departing from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Yinchuan or Zhengzhou can arrive at Munich via convenient stopover in Dubai.
Emirates flies to four destinations in Germany, including Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf and Hamburg. Emirates operates three daily nonstop flights each from Frankfurt and Munich as well as double-daily nonstop services from Dusseldorf and Hamburg to Dubai. Two of the three daily flights out of Frankfurt as well as all Munich and all Dusseldorf flights are operated by the airline's flagship Airbus A380s. During Oktoberfest, Emirates will be offering close to 28,000 seats on its flights to the Bavarian capital alone - enough to fill the four largest tents of the venue.
Besides serving regionally inspired cuisine on all its routes, Emirates also develops seasonal menus and between September 16th and October 3rd, 2017, customers across all classes can kick off the Oktoberfest celebrations on board with a specially created menu.
Travellers in First Class and Business Class on their way from Dubai to Germany and vice versa can celebrate the Oktoberfest up in the air with Emirates as they get to enjoy a variety of Bavarian specialities in the arguably most popular social spot at 40,000 feet: A three tier stand offering rock salt pretzels with traditional dips such as obazda and sweet mustard, a sandwich selection tray for instance with pretzel rolls filled with Bavarian-style cold cut turkey let passengers literally get a taste of the Oktoberfest. Needless to say, the Oktoberfest would be nothing without its iconic beer which is why Emirates will also be serving original Oktoberfest beer from the renowned Paulaner brewery - one of the only six breweries to serve at the event.
For those craving a sweet treat after the savoury Bavarian snacks, the Onboard Lounge offers a comprehensive assortment of Bavarian and German pastries such as Zwetschgenkuchen, Baumkuchen, Guglhupf and many more. Following Emirates' focus on local flavors that plays an important part in the airline's yearly catering investment of US$1 billion, passengers travelling to Dubai from Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich in Economy Class between September 16th and October 3rd, 2017 get to enjoy a typical German hot meal that was specially created for Oktoberfest and consists of roasted chicken, Spätzle and a tasty mushroom sauce.
The airline develops seasonal menus where possible, such as Christmas meals in December. The Oktoberfest spread is the latest seasonal menu to be introduced on board and exclusively available on routes to Germany.
