Japan: Government Inspects Skynet Asia over Coverup of Pilots' Illnesses

On May 29, Japan's transport ministry inspected the head office of Skynet Asia Airways Co. in Miyazaki City to look into its compliance with the law following the coverup of the medical histories of some of its pilots.
The action comes after the ministry's directive earlier this month for a remedial measure following the revelation that the airline submitted false medical histories to aviation authorities on some of its pilots in violation of the aviation law.
The inspection by the Civil Aviation Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is designed to check whether the airline has established an adequate health management system for its crew and whether its employees have raised their awareness of the need to comply with the law, according to ministry officials.
On May 13, the transport ministry ordered Skynet Asia to rectify the improper practice after it found the airline had helped two pilots hide medical records so they would clear pilot health requirements.
