- KLM Takes Delivery of Its 15th 777 in Seattle[Apr. 30, 2007]
On April 27, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines took delivery of its 15th Boeing 777-200ER (Extended Range) from Paine Field in Everett, Wash., north of Seattle. KLM is leasing the airplane from International Lease Finance Corp. (ILFC). KLM, part of the Air France-KLM Group, operates the 777-200ER on long-haul international routes from its Amsterdam base to cities such as Cape Town, Los Angeles and Tokyo.
- New CLA in Prospect for Swiss European Pilots[Apr. 27, 2007]
Swiss European Air Lines and the "Interessensgemeinschaft fur einen Gesamtarbeitsvertrag" ("IG pro GAV") association have reached agreement on the content of a new Collective Labour Agreement (CLA) for SWISS's regional pilot corps. The accord lays the foundation for a new social partnership; and the new CLA should enter into effect in July, 2007.
- Alaska Air Group Posts US$10.3 Million Net Loss in First Quarter[Apr. 27, 2007]
Alaska Air Group, parent of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, recorded a first-quarter net loss of US$10.3 million compared to a loss of US$79.1 million in the 2006 quarter, but said that excluding special items in both years it would have reported a 2007 quarterly loss of US$15.8 million versus a 2006 profit of US$2.8 million. "Higher fuel costs, increased competition and a softer revenue environment in the first quarter make it imperative that we continue to drive changes to keep ticket prices affordable and attract new customers," said Chairman and CEO Bill Ayer.
- US Airways Lifts Profit Despite Weather, Technological Headaches[Apr. 27, 2007]
US Airways Group escaped a first quarter that featured two significant storms disrupting operations in the Northeast and a complicated reservations system integration with a US$66 million net profit, a slight 1.8% improvement over earnings of US$65 million in the year-ago quarter.
- Boeing Delivers First 737-900ER to Launch Customer Lion Air[Apr. 27, 2007]
On April 27, the Boeing Company and launch-customer Lion Air celebrated the delivery of the first Next-Generation 737-900ER (Extended Range) airplane. The airplane was delivered in a special dual paint scheme that combines the Lion Air lion on the vertical stabilizer and the Boeing livery colors on the fuselage. Boeing launched the 737-900ER program in July 2005 when Jakarta-based Lion Air announced the initial order for 30 of the newest 737 model. To date, Lion Air has ordered 60 737-900ERs.
- TACV Takes Delivery of Its First ATR 72-500[Apr. 27, 2007]
On April 27, Cape Verde, Praia-based TACV (Transportes Aereos de Cabo Verde) accepted delivery of its first ATR 72-500. This aircraft is the first to be delivered following the signature of a US$50 million contract for 3 ATR aircraft (1 ATR 42-500 and 2 ATR 72-500s) in October 2006.
- British Airways Increases Long Haul Fuel Surcharge[Apr. 27, 2007]
British Airways is to increase its longhaul fuel surcharge with effect from Wednesday May 2, 2007, as a result of recent trends in the price of oil.
- ANA Reports Profit for Fiscal Year 2006[Apr. 27, 2007]
On April 27, ANA Group posted a record consolidated operating profit of 92.1 billion yen on a record consolidated revenue of 1.48 trillion yen for the twelve months ended March 31, 2007. This represents a year-on-year improvement of 3.8% and 8.8 % respectively. Consolidated net profit for the period was 32.6 billion yen, the second highest in ANA's history and 22.2% better than the FY2005. The Group's highest net profit was posted in FY2000. Costs incurred by the return of leased aircraft resulted in a 6.3% drop in recurring profit to 62.5 billion yen.
- Boeing, Arik Air Announce Launch of Nigerian Carrier's Widebody Fleet[Apr. 26, 2007]
On April 26, Boeing and Arik Air announced an order for three 787-9s, two 777-200 LRs (Longer Range) and two 777-300ERs (Extended Range) at the delivery ceremony for two new 737-700s that will soon begin operations from the airline's home base in Lagos, Nigeria. The list-price value of the new order is approximately US$1.5 billion. The airplanes were previously listed as unidentified on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website.
