- Korean Air doubles first-quarter profit[May 05, 2006]
Korean Air credited rising passenger and cargo demand and a strong won for an impressive first quarter during which it more than doubled its net profit to KRW127 billion ($134 million) from the KRW59 billion earned in the quarter ended March 31, 2005.
- Norwegian's loss widens on fuel costs[May 01, 2006]
Affected by its lack of fuel hedging contracts, Norwegian posted a net loss of NOK43.1 million ($6.9 million) for the quarter ended March 31 compared to a net loss of NOK34.3 million in the year-ago period.The jet fuel bill more than doubled from NOK56.7 million to NOK123.3 million and now represents 21% of the carrier's total operating costs against only 15% in the year-ago quarter.

Despite steep fuel price hikes, the fast-expanding Shenzhen Airlines will record a 120 million yuan (US$15 million) profit for the first four months of this year, General Manager Li Kun forecast.

JetBlue Airways, which had posted profits steadily since its 2000 launch even as most US carriers suffered huge losses, reported a first-quarter net loss of $32 million yesterday and said it will defer delivery of 12 aircraft as part of an effort to regain profitability.

Midwest Air Group, parent of Midwest Airlines and Skyway Airlines, continued to show progress on its bottom line, reporting an $8.7 million loss for the first quarter, lowered from a $15.9 million deficit in the year-ago period.
- NWA pilot pay cuts go deeper than Delta[Apr. 25, 2006]
The tentative pilot contract at Delta Air Lines, if ratified by ALPA membership, will drop the carrier from having the third-highest-paid narrowbody captains to the middle of the pack, while Northwest Airlines, if its pilots ratify their agreement, will fall even further, from having the second-highest-paid work group to the No. 8 position, just above JetBlue.
