- US TSA says private firms could offer cards[Jan. 23, 2006]
The US Transportation Security Administration on Friday announced several parameters for a nationwide smart-card-based Registered Traveler program to be run by the private sector.In a statement, TSA said it could approve qualified RT programs "by June of this year." But the agency apparently is leaving it in the hands of airports and private companies to invest "in approved screening equipment, fund additional screeners and/or obtain space for separate RT screening" in order to provide participants in the program with a speedier trip through security lines.
- Toronto-Shanghai non-stop flights to fly[Jan. 15, 2006]
Air Canada Sunday announced that effective June 16, 2006 it will introduce non-stop service between Toronto and Shanghai.
- Austrian eyes new service to Siberia[Jan. 16, 2006]
Austrian Airlines Group is eyeing service to new destinations in Siberia."We are currently studying whether to start services from Vienna to Tjumen and Celyabinsk. We also hope to get permission to operate regular services to Kazakhstan during 2006," CCO Josef Burger told ATWOnline. In addition, Austrian plans to add 19 weekly frequencies to Eastern European destinations and 21 frequencies to Western Europe.
