EVA Air Chairman Steve Lin took delivery of the airline's third Boeing 777-300ER at a ceremony in Seattle on June 22, 2006. The brand-new aircraft was immediately ferried back to Taipei, Taiwan and scheduled to land at Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport (CKS) at 5:30 p.m. (17:30) on June 23 (Taipei time).
The B777 will be prepared for flight service and deployed to Bangkok, Hong Kong and other short-haul, regional destinations until mid-July. Via a special lease-back arrangement with EVA, Boeing plans to showcase the innovative, advanced aircraft throughout the one-week run of the Farnborough International Airshow July 17 -23.
The stunning new aircraft will be introduced on EVA's Taipei - Los Angeles route around toward the end of July and will give passengers a three-cabin, state-of-the-art alternative to the carrier's four-class B747-400 service on transpacific flights. The B777's streamlined cabins, ergonomic seats, Audio/Video on Demand system and upgraded amenities are expected to get a strong response from travelers flying back and forth between Asia and North America.
An EVA market analysis shows that most passengers outbound from Taiwan prefer to take a night flight to Los Angeles so that they have the day available for business or leisure activities. In response, EVA has scheduled its flight BR16 to depart CKS at 11:55 p.m. (23:55), giving these passengers the itinerary choice they have said that they want. It is also placing its newest B777-300ER in service on the BR16 schedule with two flights a week, departing CKS at 11:55 p.m. (23:55) and arriving at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 9:00 p.m. (21:00) the same day. Return flight BR15 leaves LAX at 1:20 a.m. and arrives in Taipei at 5:30 a.m. one day later.
EVA will add a fourth B777-300ER in November of this year and also use it on the Los Angeles route, raising frequency for the new aircraft model to six flights a week. EVA will place four more B777-300ERs in service on flights to US destinations next year, replacing B747-400s. Gradually, the airline will deploy B777-300ERs on all of its US and Canadian flights.
EVA flies 17 round-trips a week between Taipei and Los Angeles, providing the greatest capacity and frequency to Taiwan. On June 14, it increased Taipei - San Francisco service from 11 to 12 flights a week. It also flies a Taipei - Seattle - New York route five times a week, and Taipei - Seattle once each week. In July, it will add a second Taipei -- Seattle flight and in September, a third, elevating its frequency between Asia and the Pacific Northwest capital to become the industry's most extensive.
By June 2009, EVA will have a total of 12 B777-300ERs in use on its far-reaching, worldwide network of major leisure and business destinations.
