Galileo International has signed an exclusive agreement with India's SpiceJet to provide the low cost airline's low fares and inventory on the Galileo GDS platform. (7/11/2006)
From August onwards, content for SpiceJet will be distributed via the Galileo Flight Integrator, a product introduced by Galileo exclusively for low cost airlines.
The collaboration, a first for both companies, will introduce SpiceJet for the first time to other markets via this major and well-established distribution channel and will also benefit Galileo subscribers in over 7000 agency locations in India.
Spicejet is currently offering over 280,000 seats a month on its present network and with the planned capacity increase towards the end of 2006, capacity will almost double to 500,000 seats per month. With this tie-up, SpiceJet expects to have a significant contribution to its sales volumes through the network of Galileo connected agents.
Siddhanta Sharma, chief executive officer, SpiceJet said this strategic move allow the airline to be more accessible to over 50,000 travel agents throughout the world.
Spicejet will continue to focus in developing cost effective distribution channels and optimize its seat utilisation. This association will provide SpiceJet with an opportunity for extended distribution for the discerning international traveler, said Sharma.
