CX limits carry-on allowance for crew

In order to deal with the problem of rising costs due to increased oil price, Hong Kong-based carrier, Cathay Pacific, has recently introduced a new set of company policy, which limits the cabin crew with no more than 4 days layover time to only have one carry-on baggage smaller than the regulated size applies to the ordinary passengers, in order to save fuel. However, the measure has angered many of the airline's cabin crew.
A spokesman from Cathay Pacific admitted that all related company departments are trying various methods to lower the fuel expenses, and this new Crew Baggage Guidance is one of the many measures.
"Cabin crew with no layover could have their baggage weighted no more than nine kilograms, those who need to have one night layover could have up to 19 kilograms whilst the ones on the long-haul flights could have an additional 22-kilogram luggage," she said.
A group of the carrier's cabin crew said that the company informed the employees through the intranet: Effective from Jan 6th this year, the cabin crew with fewer than 4 days layover time is limited to carry one 38-centimeter-long ,50-centimeter-wide and 20-centimeter-high carry-on baggage only, which the size is smaller than the size of regulated carry-on baggage for all passengers.
"The newly-regulated baggage size can't possibly accommodate all the necessary articles including shoes, makeup, an extra suit of uniform, service manual, casual suits and casual shoes etc, not even a warm coat," some cabin crew said in a statement. (Translation: CARNOC - Mengping Tao)
