Steel in Moon Cake Sets Off Airport Alarm
Sep. 26, 2006
A Singaporean passenger surnamed Jim thanked airport security guards many times after one of his moon cakes was found to contain steel wire over the weekend.
The incident took place in the morning when the security alarm was sounded while Jim, with his moon cakes, was passing the security check at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. After detailed inspection, the moon cakes were found to be the culprit. Steel wire was found when one of the moon cakes was opened.
The moon cakes, a famous local brand name Jim had bought before coming to the airport, had been meant for his children at the traditional Chinese mid-autumn festival, which falls on October 6 this year.
Jim said the security guards might have saved his children's lives.
