Japan Airlines (JAL) announced its intention to sign a code share agreement with the Japanese cargo start-up Galaxy Airlines. The proposed agreement is subject to the approval of Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation.
The intention of both airlines is to code share on flights between Tokyo's Haneda Airport and Kitakyushu Airport and between Haneda and Naha, Okinawa. JAL aims to expand its share of the domestic cargo market with these late night cargo flights.
Galaxy Airlines has approval to inaugurate flights on these routes from 31 October, 2006. JAL will buy part of the freight space of the Airbus A300B4-622 freighters operated by Galaxy Airlines, which have a maximum payload of 47 tons.
Galaxy Airlines is owned by the Japanese logistics company SG Holdings Co.
