Thai Airways Increases Services to Brisbane
Brisbane Airport Corporation | Oct. 09, 2006
Brisbane Airport Corporation Pty Limited (BAC) has welcomed the announcement by Thai Airways International (THAI) to upgrade its services to Brisbane from three to five per week from 1 December this year.
The upgrades follow strong growth in inbound travel from THAI's network across Europe and Asia coupled with the growing business travel market from Brisbane.
BAC General Manager of Commercial Services Otto Ambagtsheer said the route upgrades will provide a boost to the economy of Queensland, with recent figures showing the average international passenger contributes around AU$900 to the Queensland economy.
"THAI's network is an important focus for Queensland tourism, and these upgrades will ensure we can accommodate the substantial increase in demand, delivering greater benefits to the Queensland tourism and investment economy," he said.
"The continued growth of large carriers like THAI shows just how important air travel is to the state's economy and every day life of Queenslanders. THAI's decision to make Brisbane Airport a major focus of its ever-growing global network, which includes Europe, India and China, is further evidence of the health of the aviation and tourism industry across Queensland.
"BAC congratulates THAI on being a traveller's favourite in Brisbane and we look forward to further growing our strong relationship in our future business together."
The new services will operate on Thursday and Sunday with a new Boeing 777-200ER aircraft including new comforts such as the lie-flat beds in business class.
THAI General Manager Australia, Mr Pruet said these upgraded aircraft features were expected to compliment the increase in services.
"THAI recognises the significance of the growth in Brisbane and as such we have strong intentions to further develop our Airline's position within this market through this increase in services and cabin product."
Mr Ambagtsheer said with more passengers flying through Brisbane than ever before, this route will help Brisbane Airport to continue to provide world-class service to its customers.
"The increase in THAI's services is part of BAC's vision to create maximum choice for the flying public, making for an easier and more pleasant traveling experience while accommodating the needs of the rapidly growing number of passengers traveling through Brisbane Airport."
