SIA Takes Delivery of Boeing's 600th 777 Aircraft
Singapore Airlines Limited | Dec. 20, 2006
Singapore Airlines has welcomed Boeing's 600th 777 aircraft into its fleet. With this delivery of its 61st 777, Singapore Airlines maintains its status as the world's largest operator of this family of planes: more than one in every 10 Boeing 777s in operation today.
The new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft is the 3rd to join the fleet. With 16 more to be delivered over the next two years, Singapore Airlines will eventually have 77 Boeing 777 aircraft in the fleet.
The Airline placed a firm order for a total of 19 777-300ER aircraft in August 2004.
All new 777-300ERs are fitted with an entirely new cabin that will set new standards of excellence in air travel. Each aircraft features the world's largest First and Business Class seats with full-flat beds, a more spacious Economy Class, as well as the world's most advanced inflight entertainment system.
Currently flying daily from Singapore to Paris and Hong Kong, the new 777-300ER aircraft will also be deployed to other major cities in Europe, Asia and the United States in due course. This new delivery will enable the commencement of services to Milan and Barcelona tomorrow, 20 December. Zurich, Seoul and San Francisco will follow in January, after subsequent deliveries.
Singapore Airlines now operates a total of 89 wide-body aircraft comprising 61 Boeing 777s, including 3 new 777-300ERs; 23 Boeing 747-400s; as well as 5 Airbus A340-500 ultra long-haul aircraft.
With this delivery, the average age of the aircraft in Singapore Airlines fleet is just 6 years and 5 months.
