Lufthansa's Most Frequent Destinations in 2006
Deutsche Lufthansa AG | Jan. 12, 2007
Lufthansa turned in another record year in 2006. The airline carried more than 53 million passengers, it's about 400 aircraft took off and landed more than 640,000 times at diverse destinations. But where did those planes fly most often? At the very top of the list are Frankfurt and Munich. More than 115,000 flights were operated to each of those airports in the past year - an average of about 315 landings, daily. Next on the list in 2006 is Duesseldorf with about 38,000 landings followed by Hamburg with about 28,000, Berlin with about 21,000 and Stuttgart with about 19,000.
In Europe, Lufthansa's most frequent destinations were London and Paris, each of which logged about 12,000 landings. The leader overseas was New York's John F. Kennedy Airport with 1,300 landings. But smaller airports, which do not figure among Lufthansa's scheduled flights to 188 destinations in 78 countries, also played host to Lufthansa aircraft. During the FIFA World Cup, for example, the airline also flew to Giebelstadt, Lahr and Zweibruecken. All in all, Lufthansa laid on 124 special flights to fly World Cup teams to the venues of their games. Once even in 2006, the crane ventured right up North - on a flight to Longyearbyen Airport on Spitsbergen.
By the way: Lufthansa's longest nonstop route is from Frankfurt to Singapore. That route over more than 10,200 kilometres (6,370 miles) is flown daily by a Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 in less than 13 hours.
