No Reaction Yet from Qantas on Air NZ's Domestic Airfare Cuts
Jan. 23, 2007
Qantas is staying quiet about whether it will follow Air New Zealand in cutting domestic airfares.
The New Zealand's national carrier has just announced details of its new pricing schedule, which starts on February 24.
The most significant savings are only available for one out of every ten passengers and some high-end flights will see small increases.
Qantas regional general manager for New Zealand, Grant Lilly, says the airline will remain competitive at all times in the New Zealand market.
Meanwhile, Air New Zealand says its new pricing structure will increase access to smaller regions.
The airline's Chief Executive, Rob Fyfe, says the introduction of the Q300 jet-prop aircraft last year has created 60 percent more seats on flights to regional areas.
Mr Fyfe is also indicating future pricing changes to Tasman and Pacific routes.
