Emirates will commence the first-ever non-stop service between South America and the Middle East as of October 1, 2007 connecting Dubai with Sao Paulo, Brazil. Operating six rotations per week, Emirates will deploy a brand new Boeing 777-200LR on the route.
"We have been looking to expand our operations in the Americas for some time, and we are delighted to be able to launch our first South American destination later this year," said HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates.
The new route connects Emirates' network of 14 cities in the Middle East with a new direct connection to South America via Dubai. The 777-200LR will also offer shippers up to 18 tonnes of cargo capacity.
"We believe this new direct air link will stimulate more trade and tourism exchange between these two thriving economies. We look forward to introducing the exciting new destination of Brazil to our customers around the globe," Sheikh Al-Maktoum added.
