Melbourne Airport Welcomes Possible Increased Services by Qantas
Jan. 31, 2007
Melbourne Airport is encouraged by Airline Partners Australia announcement on January 31 that if its bid for Qantas is successful it intends to increase domestic and international services.
Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Barlow said increased international services to Melbourne would be a welcomed initiative from Airline Partners Australia.
"The proposal to acquire new aircraft will increase Qantas' ability to add much needed international airline seat capacity, which would be very welcomed at Melbourne," he said.
"Over the summer holiday period aircraft have been full and getting a seat into or out of Melbourne has been difficult. Victoria would benefit from more international capacity and more seats from Qantas is good news."
Melbourne Airport has written to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) stating it has no objection to the Airline Partners Australia proposal for Qantas.
