Delta Air Lines Inc. said on April 2 that it has expanded its maintenance pacts with World Airways and North American Airlines.
The two new contracts, valued at more than US$200 million, have been extended by five years, Atlanta-based Delta said.
Delta's maintenance division, known as Delta TechOps, will provide component repair, engine repair and maintenance and inventory exchange programs for the two Georgia-based carriers.
"We're honored to be expanding our relationship with World Airways and North American Airlines," Tony Charaf, president of Delta TechOps, said in a news release. "This extended agreement is a strong testament to the expertise of the men and women in TechOps. Their professionalism and commitment to quality and continuous operational improvement have been a driving force behind the success of our MRO business."
Maintenance for other carriers is a growing business for Delta. Delta TechOps generated more than US$500 million in revenue for Delta in 2008, up from US$377 million in 2007. The world's largest airline, which boasts North America's largest Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul operation, provides services to 125 aviation and airline customers worldwide.
World and North American are owned by Peachtree City, Ga.-based Global Aviation Holdings.
North American, a charter airline, was founded in 1989 and uses Boeing 757 and Boeing 767 aircraft. World, a charter and cargo hauler, flies DC-10, MD-11 and Boeing 747-400 aircraft.
