FAA Proposes US$359,000 Fine Against SkyWest in U.S.
Jan. 18, 2011
On Jan. 18, U.S. aviation regulators proposed a US$359,000 fine against SkyWest Airlines Inc for alleged cargo and maintenance-related violations.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said Utah-based SkyWest failed to properly document heavy checked bags and other cargo, resulting in incorrect weight and balance information on five flights last year.
The FAA also alleged SkyWest operated at least 13 flights in 2009 and 2010 when aircraft were not in compliance with certain maintenance regulations.
Company officials could not immediately be reached for a comment.
SkyWest has 30 days to appeal the proposed fine.
