Greece Scraps Airport Landing, Takeoff and Stopover Fees for 9 Months to Boost Tourism
Mar. 16, 2011
Greece's transport ministry says it is waiving landing, takeoff and stopover fees for all aircraft using Greek airports, except for Athens International Airport, from April until the end of the year.
The ministry said the fee waiver is an attempt to boost tourism, which is one of the cash-strapped country's main industries. Similar decisions have been taken in the past.
Greece, which is currently reliant on a EUR110 billion package of rescue loans from the European Union and International Monetary Fund, has been struggling to raise revenues.
