The proponents of a helicopter pilot training school near Maitland say there will be minimal impact on nearby residents.

Newcastle Helicopters has lodged a development application with Maitland Council for its proposed pilot training school to be based at Rutherford Aerodrome.

The company wants to use a helicopter at the Aerodrome for practical training associated with its existing theory and administration facilities at Tomago.

An environmental assessment says one student and one instructor will travel from Tomago to Rutherford Aerodrome where practical training will be carried out and there will only be two or three lessons per day.

The company says the proposal will provide added investment for the aerodrome.

There has been an ongoing battle between the operators at Rutherford and local residents over aircraft noise, but Newcastle Helicopters says its proposal will have little impact.
