China's civil aviation regulator declares to accelerate the development of general aviation sector during the country's 12th Five-year Plan Period. China is expected to introduce another 1,000 general aviation aircraft and establish 3 to 5 key general aviation enterprises by 2015.
Compared with the developed countries, China's general aviation is still in its infancy, lagging far behind the development of commercial aviation sector. As of the end of 2010, there were only 1,000 general aviation aircraft and 70 airports in the country. Currently, the number of general aviation aircraft worldwide reaches 340,000, among which 70 percent belong to U.S., up to 230, 000. In addition, over 17,500 airports and heliports are available for public use in U.S.. The number of Canada's general aviation aircraft is around 31,000; other countries with over 10,000 general aviation aircraft also include Australia, Russia and Brazil.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) made clear in the "12th Five-year Plan" that it will speed up the infrastructure construction of the general aviation sector, expand the area and scale of the general aviaiton service and improve the sector's regulatory and standard system.
