Officials say the pilot of an experimental plane survived a crash landing in the Clark Fork River in Montana and made it to shore in Idaho while the plane floated downstream into a closed spillgate of the Cabinet Gorge Dam.
Officials in Montana's Sanders County tell the Bonner County Daily Bee that the pilot was taken to the Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, Idaho, following the crash that occurred about 2:20 p.m. Friday.
Officials say the pilot might have been suffering from hypothermia. It's unclear whether the pilot swam to shore or received help.
Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler says it's not clear why the plane crashed. Federal aviation officials were on the way to investigate.
Jessie Wuerst of Avista Corp. says the aircraft didn't damage the hydroelectric facility.
