All Nippon Airways Co. said Wednesday it will take delivery of its first, much-delayed 787 Dreamliner aircraft from Boeing Co. in August or September this year.
In a statement, the Japanese carrier -- the launch customer for Boeing's vaunted new-generation jet -- said a 787 will make a maiden flight to Tokyo, landing July 3 at Haneda airport, the smaller of Tokyo's two airports, but located much closer to the center of the capital than Narita.
Executives from both companies will present the jet to the media the next day.
Designed to be much more fuel-efficient than its predecessors, but now three years behind schedule, the 787 is a cornerstone of ANA's plans for international growth from Haneda. ANA is Japan's second-biggest carrier after Japan Airlines.
ANA said earlier this year it plans to introduce 14 of the new jets in the current fiscal year through March 2012, to be followed by an additional 10 in the following year.
