The State Government of Victoria says additional flights between Melbourne and China will bring a major boost to the state's tourism sector.
Budget airline Jetstar has announced it will start daily flights between Melbourne and Beijing in November.
Tourism Minister, Louise Asher, says any measure that brings more Chinese tourists to Victoria is good for the state's economy.
"The tourism forecasting committee has forecast that by the end of the year, that the Chinese market will be the biggest international market in Victoria," she said.
"So this is a very significant market for us and anything that brings the Chinese here more readily, is something that the Government is welcoming."
