Montreal-based flight training giant CAE Inc. is getting busier in the emerging markets. It has won C$60 million of new contracts for full flight simulators to be installed in flight training centres in Russia and China.
CAE will build a A320 simulator for Aeroflot, Russia's State airline, and deliver A320 full simulator and a 737 full simulator to the Zhuhai Flight Training Centre in China, a joint-venture of China Southern Airlines and CAE.
It will also build a Bell 412 helicopter simulator for an unidentified client - the 412 is built at Mirabel.
The sales were booked in the first quarter ended June 30 and bring the total of full flight simulators ordered so far in fiscal 2012 to 11.
"The latest orders expand our global presence in the airline and helicopter markets," said Jeff Roberts, CAE's group president, civil simulator products, training and services.
The Aeroflot simulator will be delivered by year-end and includes next-generation visual systems and electric motion. The additions to the Zhuhai centre will bring the total there to 19 simulators -- it is China's largest independent aviation training centre. They are for delivery next year.
The Bell 412 helicopter simulator will operate for CAE's new training centre in Toluca, Mexico, when it opens next year.
