Tiger Airways Wins Adjournment for Hearing on CASA Suspension
Jul. 28, 2011
Tiger Airways Australia has successfully applied to adjourn until Monday a hearing on the Civil Aviation Safety Authority decision to suspend its operations for safety reasons.
The hearing had been scheduled for today and Tiger will remain grounded till at least Monday.
It is understood that Tiger Airways may soon receive conditional approval -- possibly early next week -- to restart operations, which are likely to concentrate on core routes and see the airline axe services to destinations such as Alice Springs.
There have also been suggestions Tiger will close its base at Avalon Airport, near Geelong, and reduce its fleet of 10 aircraft to eight.
The airline has yet to reveal its plans and has not ruled out a reported August 6 start-date but Tiger's website today was showing all flights on this date as "sold out".
Tiger Airways said in a statement today to the Singapore Stock Exchange that discussions with CASA were ongoing and it saw no utility in a hearing today while the talks continued.
