Passengers on a Virgin Australia flight at Sydney Airport have been delayed by a bomb hoax this morning.

Australian Federal Police officers were called to flight DJ-402, which was bound for Adelaide, about 6:45am (AEST).

The aircraft was taxiing to the runway for take-off when a passenger made the threat.

Police and emergency services personnel surrounded the plane and 41 passengers plus the crew were removed safely.

The AFP says a bomb appraisal officer and the canine unit searched the entire aircraft, including its cargo and baggage, but found no danger.

The 32-year-old woman who allegedly made the hoax threat has been detained.

Virgin Australia says the other passengers bound for Adelaide will be put on other flights.

The Sydney Airport Corporation says the incident did not impact on any other operations at the airport.
