Aug. 05, 2011
Two people were killed Thursday morning when their ultralight aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from a municipal airport near Wisconsin Dells in the United States, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Reedsburg police said that the craft, a single-engine Quad Cities Challenger II, nosedived into the ground against a barn, shortly after it took off from the Reedsburg Municipal Airport at 11:16 a.m. local time.
The craft appeared to wobble as it tried to gain altitude after takeoff, and it nosedived into the ground and collided with a barn, according to eyewitnesses.
The craft was registered to an owner in Wisconsin Dells. Reedsburg is about 15 miles (1 mile equals 1.6 kms) from the Dells.
The police and the Federal Aviation Administration are still investigating the cause of the crash, and the National Transportation Safety Board also will conduct its own investigation.
