Honda Aircraft Co. has chosen Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C. for an US$80 million expansion that includes a new maintenance and repair and overhaul center and the addition of 419 new jobs over the next five years.
Salaries will vary, but the average wage for the new jobs will be US$53,418, plus benefits.
The new jobs would be in addition to the 650 or so that already work for Honda at the airport, where the company is developing a new US$4.5 million corporate jet, known as the HondaJet. Piedmont Triad International Airport is home to the company's world headquarters and main manufacturing facility.
The company expects to begin delivery on the first jets in 2013.
Honda Aircraft plans to build a US$9 million sales and maintenance hangar at Albany International Airport, but construction had been delayed because of the recession. Calls to Honda Aircraft were not returned.
Honda is expected to receive US$1 million in incentives from North Carolina for its investment at the Piedmont Triad airport. It has also been approved for US$1.3 million in city and county incentives.
