The Transport Workers Union (TWU) has called off its nationwide industrial action scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, Qantas says.

The TWU had planned one-hour stoppages on Tuesday at Brisbane and Melbourne airport (both beginning at 8 a.m.).

A three-hour stoppage had been planned for Sydney Airport on Wednesday has been called off, as were one-hour stoppages for Canberra and Cairns airports on the same day.

Qantas announced today that the union had contacted the airline to say the industrial action had been called off.

"We welcome the cancellation of strikes and will continue meeting with the TWU in an attempt to resolve the ongoing pay dispute," a Qantas spokesman told AAP.

Comment from the TWU was being sought.

The ongoing disputes between Qantas and its pilot, engineers, baggage handlers, ground staff and catering employees are over pay claims and calls by its workers for job security.

Last week, the airline's engineers temporarily cancelled strike action in an attempt to force the airline to return to its full flight schedule.

The Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA) cancelled its protected industrial action for three weeks, with federal secretary Steve Purvinas saying the "ceasefire" should allow all grounded planes to resume flying.
