The recent dispute involving Qantas has led to mixed reactions from tourism operators on the New South Wales far south coast.

Eurobodalla Tourism says this year's bookings during the peak season are strong, with a project in the works to stimulate interest as far as May 2012.

Spokeswoman Catherine Reilly says the industrial turmoil initially created hope.

"It's mixed and very anecdotal," she said.

"One school of thought says that the uncertainty with airlines would be very good for a region like Eurobodalla because we're predominately a drive destination, and there will be some people who'll say 'I couldn't be bothered doing the airport thing'.

"Our traditional market from Canberra, Western New South Wales and Sydney may think it's just easier to jump in the car."

But she says the flow-on effect could also have a negative impact on the regional economy.

"We're seeing very good deals, so people may take advantage of that," she said.

"Queensland, which has suffered a lot, also have some great deals.

"So what I guess we don't know with consumer confidence is how motivated people will be to take some of the amazing deals on offer, or will their motivation just be to have a really safe happy holiday."
