Tiger Adds Flights to Meet Demand

Tiger Airways Australia will add 380,000 seats to its existing routes during the northern summer travel period between March and October.
The airline said this included 240,000 additional seats between its Melbourne hub and Sydney, 46,000 to the Gold Coast, 28,000 to Brisbane and 69,000 to Perth.
Spokeswoman Vanessa Regan said the airline was ramping up its schedule to cater for increased demand on existing routes, moving from 27 sectors per day to 32.
The new schedule will see the low-cost carrier operating eight return Melbourne-Sydney flights per day, two between Melbourne and Perth, three to Brisbane and three to the Gold Coast.
Tiger has been running a reduced schedule since it returned to service on August 12 after it was grounded for almost six weeks by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority because of safety concerns.
It moved last month to flying seven of the 10 aircraft in its Australian fleet and hopes to have all 10 in the air by the middle of this year as part of plans to eventually return to profitability.
Tiger chief executive Andrew David said at that time he expected increase use of the seven planes and announce new destinations for the airline this month.
Ms Regan said that process was still under way and announcements would be made "in due course".
"We are talking to many tourism and airports around the country about our future development plans and there is much interest in our return to many popular destinations we used to fly to," she said. "We are resuming services gradually focusing on routes we can fly affordably, safely and with enhanced reliability."
