A Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 is now flying from Singapore to Frankfurt and New York, with the inaugural flight departing overnight.
With more than 450 customers on board, flight SQ26 is scheduled to make its inaugural touchdown in Frankfurt at 6:10 a.m. local time. It will then depart the German city at 8:20 a.m. and arrive at New York's JFK airport at 11:10 a.m., (all times local).
The daily A380 flights will replace an existing daily Boeing 747-400 service to JFK Airport via Frankfurt, representing a daily increase of 25 percent in seat capacity.
Frankfurt and New York will be Singapore Airlines' ninth and 10th destinations to receive the superjumbo. Frankfurt is Singapore Airlines' fourth point in Europe to be added to the list, after London, Paris and Zurich, while New York is the second point in North America, after Los Angeles.
Singapore Airlines says its A380 fleet has proven exceptionally popular with customers, with strong loads on all routes it serves.
The world's first carrier to operate the A380 in October 2007, Singapore Airlines has since carried more than 6 million customers on the superjumbo system-wide. The Airline currently has 15 A380s in service and four more on firm order.
